Project Match Castlerea and the local transition year students has identified a need in the community for a safe, drug and alcohol free social space for 16-24 year olds in the area. The idea was presented to the community and various local organisations at a youth-led conference on Tuesday 28 May, and our group of young leaders will be progressing to Youth Leadership training on June 13.  

The Sort Out For Summer donation drive was a phenomenal success. We were absolutely astounded by the incredible response on the part of the community: thank you so much for all your support. An extra-special thank you goes out to the volunteers whose help was absolutely invaluable between manning the venues or collecting donations, Maeve Kelly, Mary Finn, Niall Sheridan, Helen Grehen, Tonya & Gus Caspers, Maia & Alden Mathieu. Great news at RWN: funding was just approved for us to run the W.I.N.D.O.W. project again this year. W.I.N.D.O.W. — Women Initiating New Development Opportunities for Women — is a true community development project designed to build a bridge to training, education and employment. Through mentoring, guidance and education, W.I.N.D.O.W. helps address some fundamental barriers between the project participants and their goals and focuses on developing an individual plan for each woman to develop and progress according to her own strengths & ambitions. Jessamine O’Connor of the Millwheel Writers Group launched her chapbook Hellsteeth on Wednesday, 29th May here at the Old Mill. A grand night was had by all and we congratulate Jessamine on a hugely successful launch. On Thursday, May 9th, the RWN Local Training Services, supported by FÁS, was officially opened by several students who had completed training at the facility. Dubbed a ‘Centre of Excellence’ and ‘the Best in the West’, the Training Services supports 21 students, male and female, of all ages, as they work towards FETAC major awards.   Photography by Liam Reynolds.

Project Match Castlerea Family Fun Day July 2nd 2011 A total of 131 children between the ages of 7 and 13, their parents and neighbours enjoyed the family fun day at the Castlerea Community school, organised by Project Match Castlerea. A large number of volunteers shared their skills and talent, ensuring the success of the fun day.
