Upcycled Textile St Brigid's Crosses

Learn the stories of St. Brigid and Imbolg with these lovely upcycled textile St. Brigid's Crosses. The beauty of upcycling? No two crosses are the same - each one is entirely unique!

There is a legend associated with the origin of St. Brigid’s crosses. Brigid was called to the bedside of a dying pagan Chieftain to keep watch over him in his final hours. Brigid is said to have passed the time by picking up some rushes from the floor and weaving them into a cross. The dying man wondered as to what she was making so Brigid told him the story of Jesus and he resolved to become a Christian before he passed away.

There is also a Celtic association with the cross and the pagan festival of Imbolg, which signalled the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The celebration occurred halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.

This St Brigid’s Cross is 100% made from upcycled material and a beautiful example of the circular economy of textiles.
